nice people are always pretty, somehow

one day
“Live each day as if it’s your last’, that was the conventional advice, but really, who had the energy for that? What if it rained or you felt a bit glandy? It just wasn’t practical. Better by far to simply try and be good and courageous and bold and to make a difference. Not change the world exactly, but the bit around you. Go out there with your passion and your electric typewriter and work hard at… something. Change lives through art maybe. Cherish your friends, stay true to your principles, live passionately and fully and well. Experience new things. Love and be loved, if you ever get the chance.

“I mean perfect is a lot to expect from something, right? We all have our faults”
“It’s not about us, ” I said gently, “it’s a toaster”
“It doesn’t matter,” she sat back in her chair.
“if something doesn’t work exactly right, or maybe needs some special treatment, you don’t just throw it away. Everything can’t be fully operational all the time. Sometimes, we need to have the patience to give something the little nudge it needs.”
“to jiggy eleven,” I said
“exactly,” she said, pointing at me with her spoon.
“see, colie, it’s about understanding. We’re all worth something.” For Mira, there was no lost causes.
Everything, and everyone, had it’s purpose. The rest of the world, too often, might have missed that.
